Google adds In-browser Voice and Video Chat
By Bob on Dec 03, 2008 in Computer Software
Google recently announced a much-anticipated addition to the Google Talk service. In addition to being able to send text instant messages from within the Google Mail system, users can now conduct voice and video chat– all from within your browser. I’ve been using Google Mail (GMail) for a couple of years now, one of the convenient things you could do was have live text chat / instant message session with other Google Mail users that you were friends with from within the browser without the need for a separate instant messaging client.
All you need to do is install the Google Mail Voice and Video Chat plug-in and next time you load up your Google Mail, you’re good to text chat, voice chat or video chat with your friends wherever they might be. No doubt it will run especially well on the Google Chrome Browser! Being Google Talk’s video traffic goes through Google servers, it’s expected to be more consistent as far as the connection then Skype since Google has endless bandwidth and server space.
The only thing missing for me which would surpass Skype would be the option of conference calling, so you can connect and chat with more than just one person.
