Build a Very Nice BBQ Smoker for Under $50

Homemade Bar B Que Smoker Build a Very Nice BBQ Smoker for Under $50 Bar-B-Que is always a welcomed sight in my home and smoked BBQ is a way of life. But we all know a good smoker isn’t cheap or in many cases not easy to find. While cruising the net I stopped in at LifeHacker and found this outstanding DIY video on how to build a smoker with $50 worth of parts.

Being southern born where BBQ is a way of life in almost all the southern states this got my attention. I also must point out that I’m a bit of a BBQ expert being this event happens around here when ever possible. Around here a good smoker and a cooler full of beer will earn you a place in the hall of respect.

First class smokers are normally made of ceramics as they hold the heat in, the cheap ones like what you see at your local Walmart are generally fabricated from thin metal. Those metal ones always start rusting right away, not to mention they don’t hold in the heat that well for that slow cook. And anyone who smokes know that a slow cook is key to a tasty, tender BBQ.

This video will show you how $50 worth of parts and a trip to the hardware store, you can build your very own smoker. Whats really cool is it shows you how to get the heat-retaining properties of the higher end models by using Terracotta Pots as the body for your DIY cooker. Check out the video below of Alton Brown building and using a $50 smoker.

If you’re interested and want more details than what is found in this video, check out the link below. An Alton Brown fan built their own and detailed the process including where they found the parts and which parts worked best. Check out the video after the jump.
