Cadillac WiFi option comes this April
Cadillac has announced it will be offering WiFi as an option for their cars beginning this April. Cadillac WiFi is what the car manufacture is callinghe option and will be based on a 3G device from Autonet Mobile coupled with an integrated WiFi router. Therefore you will have a 3G connection at all times in or near your vehicle to allow computers and similar devices to access the Internet. The WiFi option will cost $499 with a $29-per-month service fee. The device can be removed and used in other vehicles if you desire. The first model to receive the option will be the CTS sport sedan.
Cadillac is not the only car manufacture to pursue this option, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have announced similar plans and Blaupunkt is about to roll out the first Internet streaming car stereos. However this option may only last for a few years as the proliferation of 3G and 4G cellular enabled devices may make dedicated in-car Internet redundant. There’s a lot of speculation that 4G technology may eliminate the need of separate home and mobile services. Time will tell!
