Even if you only have one computer the set-up offers some nice benefits such as automatic backups that will protect your data in the event of a failure.

WHS allows you to schedule daily backups for your PC automatically, in fact you can schedule up to 10 Windows machines. It also allows you to select specific local drives or excluding individual folders from backup. Whats really cool about the backup option with WHS scans your files and stores only one copy of every file on its data partition, no mater how many machines have the same file. Another cool feature is WHS monitors the antivirus and firewall status of all your PC’s, that option will make any admin happy.

Windows Home Server allows file and printer sharing; stream audio, video and digital photographs to any device that supports Windows Media Connect including Xbox 360 gaming console. You can set-up remote access so you can control your server and all the networked machines connected to it from anywhere in the world. The attraction of a home server, such as Windows Home Server, is obvious for any home with several computers.

Maximum PC details the building process, installing, and managing this serious and awesome Home Server from the beginning to the end. They lay it all out for you, step-by-step on the specific hardware they’ve selected, and show you how it all works with Windows Home Server to bring in those streaming movies you want, share and back all your files without redundancy, and bring all the other high tech coolness to your very own home server network.

Do you have another Home Server how to guide that’s worthy of sharing? Tell us about it in the comments.

Hopefully you know you should use WPA to secure your Wi-Fi network, always select WPA encryption over WEP as the later is so easy to crack. How easy is it? Check out the video I posted below.

Yhis video will walk you through the procedures, step by step showing you how to crack a Wi-Fi network with WEP security turned on. Before we go on let me add a few words about why I am doing this. First off this is for educational purposes only and to help you understand how vulnerable you really are with a WEP encrypted network. So don’t be a jackass and use this newly founded knowledge for anything illegal.

I started not to write about this topic knowing that someone might take this information and use it for the wrong reasons. However the good far out weighed the bad, besides there are so many tutorials on how to crack WEP all over the Internet using this very same method.

Cracking WEP can be done with free software and a cheap Wi-Fi adapter, chances are you don’t have the tools needed for this job. Heres what you need to crack WEP.

1. You are going to need a wireless adapter that’s capable of packet injection, most likely you do not have one. I got mine from Amazon which is on sale now for $39.00, the model I purchased is a Alfa AWUS050NH USB adapter, pictured above. If you don’t like the one I have there are tons of resources on the Internet for getting aircrack-compatible adapters. If you think that yours might be one that will work check out this Tutorial: Is My Wireless Card Compatible?

2. A BackTrack 3 Live CD. Download a copy of the CD and burn it, or load it up in VMware to get started. BackTrack 4 pre-release is available but I would stick with what we know works which is version 3.

3. A active WEP-enabled Wi-Fi network with a strong signal and hopefully with users connecting and disconnecting their devices from the network. The busy network while you harvest the data to run the crack, the better your chances of success.

4. This is an ten-step process that requires typing in some long commands and waiting around for your Wi-Fi card to collect data in order to crack the password. Having a little patience will go a long way here.

Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, network and direct attached storage solutions today announced the Nfiniti™ Wireless-N Essential Router & Access Point WHR-HP-G300N. An ideal solution for connecting PCs and laptops wirelessly to the Internet, it is perfectly suited for the home and small office environment. When streaming multimedia content, such as HD movies or music, the Nfiniti Essential Router lets you download images or send and receive e-mail from multiple PCs simultaneously. With speeds of up to 300 Mbps it is also ideal to upgrade an existing wireless network, providing greater speed and coverage than Wireless-G.

“The latest iteration of Buffalo’s wireless routers and clients are engineered to exacting standards to meet and exceed the rigorous demands of our customers,” said Ralph Spagnola, vice president of sales at Buffalo Technology. “Buffalo Technology continues to be committed to delivering robust wireless solutions that are designed to precise specifications to maximize performance and range.”

To optimize your connectivity to any Windows laptop or desktop, pair the WHR-HP-G300N with Buffalo’s all new Nfiniti Wireless-N High Power Ultra-Compact USB 2.0 Adapter. With faster wireless data rates and more coverage than legacy 802.11 products, the WLI-UC-GNHP provides better performance than most PCs’ internal wireless cards. It offers sufficient bandwidth and range to stream video, voice, and music and support for the AirStation One-Touch Secure System (AOSS) allowing users to set up a high-speed, secure wireless network within minutes.

Pricing and Availability
The WHR-HP-G300N and WLI-UC-GNHP are backed by a limited two-year warranty that includes toll-free 24/7 technical support and will be available in early November at estimated street prices of $69.99 and $49.99 respectively.

The system is simple and easy to use, simply place the discrete IR receiver in a convenient visible, location, and connect it to the IR blasters and mini blasters. Next, you then place the blasters near the equipment you want to control. The Harmony IR Extender System works with most IR remotes, so there is no need to go out and purchase a new one, you can use the one you already have.

Logitech — Oct. 28, 2009 — Today, Logitech announced the Logitech Harmony® IR Extender System, which makes it easy to control your devices while they’re conveniently hidden away inside a closed cabinet. The Harmony IR Extender System doesn’t require any programming, so you’ll be up and running in no time. Just place the discrete IR receiver in a convenient, visible location, and connect it to the IR blasters and mini blasters. Then place the blasters near the equipment you want to control. So you can concentrate on your entertainment, the Harmony IR Extender System offers a sleek, low-profile design that complements your flat-screen TV. And it works with most IR remotes, so you can use the one you already own. The Logitech Harmony IR Extender System is expected to be available in the U.S. in November for a suggested retail price of $59.99 (U.S.).
