LaCie introduces Rikiki, the Tiny Hard Drive

LaCie introduces the Rikiki, a very small mobile hard drive with a resistant brushed aluminum exterior. If your wondering why they named it Rikiki, because the word means “tiny” in French. Unfortunately it’s not a SATA or USB 3 technology but USB 2.0 interface and is available and it comes in 250GB, 320GB and 640GB capacities.

The teeny Rikiki Hard Drive comes with the USB Boost software for enhanced speeds and performance, also includes the LaCie Backup Assistant for backup management. ( Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7/ Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 )

Data Robotics Drobo S and it’s 5 Drive Bays

In business data is very important especially when it comes to electronic data that’s stored on devices such as hard drives. We all know how important it is to back-up that data, if something were to happen to it you’d be out of luck.

Recently we had a mishap around here with data and that event brought this article to life. Then Data Robotics on Monday announced a new backup storage solution to its inventory with the addition of the five-bay Drobo S. I thought to myself this is perfect, so here we are, the new Drobo S adds a fifth drive bay to allow for two drives to fail without any data being lost, a feature formerly only available on the DroboPro. Which in my opinion is perfect for the small business or home configuration. I know we could have used this about a month ago with our nasty spill of data.

Basically the Drobo S box is a hard drive enclosure that lets you store up to 5 different hard drives. The nice thing about this particular device is it does everything for you, for example, lets say you would like to add a hard drive to the unit. All you have to do is just plug the internal hard drive into an empty drive bay and it does everything for you, there is nothing to configure. However, if you would like to set this up for your self then you can do that as well, but if you don’t it is done automatic. Once the drive is plugged in, the device starts to automatically configure itself and backs-up any data that needs it.

The Drobo S has an ARM chip which attributes to a 50 percent faster clock speed than the standard Drobo, it also has 20 to 25 percent faster FireWire 800 performance, they also included USB 2.0 connectivity and added an eSATA port for Ultra- fast transfer speeds that most of us dream about. As I mentioned above this device can have 5 hard drives inside for a total of 10TB, it also features a range of built in self healing technology which is designed to protect your data.

The USB Alien just might scare your kids

When it comes to USB gadgets we have seen our share, and I have to say I like this next one. This USB storage device or USB Hub looks like the alien from the Alien Movies, it even sticks out it’s glowing tongue from time to time. They call it the USB Alien and it might just give a scare to your children sitting up on your desk sticking out it’s tongue. Then again with kids today they may fall in love with the device. Hmm, maybe this is how I can get the kids to stay off my computer. Nah, their mother would kill me. If you want this USB Alien device it’s available for pre-order from Geek Stuff 4u, and it’s going to cost you $72.89. Yea I know it’s not cheap. But it does make an awesome looking Alien figurine!
