Compaq Presario CQ2009F on Sale and Reviewed
In the wake of the netbook and nettop era few companies have decided to stay out of the game. Although its sister company HP was one of the first to see the opportunity and take it, Compaq has been mull about anything in the field.
That changed with the Mini 700 from Compaq which was Compaq’s version of HP’s Mini 1000 which was UK only. Now they have released a desktop version of the device dubbed the Presario CQ2009F.
DESIGN
The design of the Presario CQ2009F is one of small form. As the name suggests this computer is built to easily fit on a counter or desk and take up as much space as toaster oven.
The device comes with an Atom 230 Processor, 1GB of PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM memory, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 64MB dedicated graphics memory, 160GB ATA hard drive, 10/100Base-T network interface, integrated audio sound card, 4 USB 2.0 ports, VGA out, heaphone jack, microphone jack and a 6-in-1 card reader.
There are also bunches of preinstalled trial software which is bound to cause headache and is one of the reasons why the system is so cheap.
PERFORMANCE
If you have a bunch of hi-tech games that you’re dying to slave away on this computer then you should probably look elsewhere. Same thing applies if you enjoy Photoshop or some other graphic intense programs.
The main use for this system will be for basic computing such as web surfing, document editing and other things. You can still get decent media playback such as music DVD’s and online video services such as Hulu and YouTube. But connecting the system to anything bigger than a computer monitor is bound to put a strain on the system.
Since XP Home edition is running the show there is no performance lag thanks to the OS. As we said before the main use of the system is for basic computing and as such you will probably find that this will make a good addon to you r kitchen or at your side table by your bed.
Due to its slim form factor the system can fit in snug spaces and a monitor can easily be attached to a wall or placed on a counter or desk nearby the system.
We were not too hot about its wireless features though as it lacked Bluetooth and a network card option. But the CD and DVD read and write speeds were good and the included 6-in-1 card reader was a nice addition.
CONLCUSION
So who is this computer for? The answer is anyone who has some money to spend and would like another computer at a more convenient place in their house. Thanks to the computers beautiful price of only $269 you can be assured that you won’t get killer performance from the system. But it’s still a great system to stick in your kitchen so you can check on the latest news, stock and whether reports before you leave and even do some surfing while you’re preparing dinner. Who wouldn’t appreciate the $269.99 price tag?
