Dow Solar Cells look normal on rooftops
Dow Solar Solutions has created a new solar panel that looks just like regular roofing shingles. Dow plans on launching the Powerhouse Solar Shingles next year, boosting how their shingles are 30 to 40% cheaper than the competition.
What’s really great about these solar panel shingles is that because there designed in the standard shingle form factor, installation requires no specialized knowledge or techniques to install, that means just about any respectable roofer can apply them to your home.
The shingle uses a thin-film cells of copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS), a photovoltaic material that typically is more efficient at turning sunlight into electricity than traditional poly-silicon cells.
Another great thing is they blend in with the existing roof shingles, therefore all of you with those crappy home owners associations agreements won’t have all the neighborhood snitches on your tail complaining about how horrible they look.

Were really hoping this catches on, I know I’m always looking for ways to go green around here. It’s expected that Dow Chemical will begin selling the new rooftop shingles that convert sunlight into electricity sometimes next year. Experts are saying this can generate $5 billion in revenue by 2015 for Dow. This is a good thing for everybody, we all win here.
“We’re looking at this one product that could generate $5 billion in revenue by 2015 and $10 billion by 2020,” says Jane Palmieri, director of Dow Solar Solutions
