google wave 588x383 Google Wave released to 100000 testersFor a couple of years now engineers have been developing Google Wave down in Austrailia, and the final field testing is about to start via invitation only of 100,000 people.  Each of these testers will be able to invite five people to join in on the testing.

What is Google Wave?

Google Wave is a real-time online communication platform that combines the aspects of email, instant messaging, wikis, web chat, social networking, and project management to allow people, friends or groups to come together snd discuss details or share files. Google describes it “how e-mail would look if it were invented today”. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

The communication using the Wave tool is live somewhat like an instant messenger allowing users to see others edits as they make them, character by character. Should a users not be online at the same time, the communications will still be available to view at a later date, much like emails waiting in your inbox.

Wave runs with most browsers, but not Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. If you wish to use the Internet Explorer Browser then a special Chrome plugin will be required to make it work, Google says this is not deliberate.
