Intel Ships the X25-E Extreme SATA SSD

intel ssd3 Intel Ships the X25 E Extreme SATA SSDIntel officially announced it’s offering the 32GB version of it’s  X-25E Extreme SATA Solid-State Drives (SSD), which are targeted at server, workstation and storage markets. SSD’s are the fastest hard drives on the planet and the X25E Extreme is currently the fastest on the market. Solid state drive refers to the fact that the primary storage medium is through semiconductors rather than magnetic media such as a normal hard drive. Basically they lack moving parts, thus faster speeds. The X-25E model will increases server, workstation and storage system performance by 100 times over normal hard disk drives and  lower energy costs by up to five times. Intel claims this SSD boast up to 250MB sustained sequential read and 170MB sustained sequential write speeds. As of this post the 32GB model will sell for $695 US Dollars in quantities of 1,000.
