Those Flip camcorders were a big hit with consumers last year. These pocket sized inexpensive cameras are easy to use—point and click to record and another to play—they produce video with good clarity for posting to websites such as YouTube and MySpace.

Kodak has entered the market with it’s release of a pocket sized camcorder known as the Zi6 and is available in black and pink. The camera comes with composite and component cables, two rechargeable batteries, battery charger, wrist strap, camera pouch, user manual, and Arcsoft’s Media Impression software. The software can be used to upload video to Youtube, which is easy to use and is Windows only. Note, the camera does not come with a SD memory card.

This pint sized camcorder is capable of recording video VGA resolution or 720p HD at either 30 or 60 frames per second. The Zi6 has a pop-out USB plug – press the button on the front and out pops the connector – which means you don’t need any cables to transfer your photos or video recordings to your computer. It also has video ports to facilitate connecting to a regular TV or an HDTV for high definition viewing. A Macro mode feature is available that boosts image quality when focusing on something close up.

The Kodak Zi6 camera is about the size of a large cell phone and weighs in 5.76 ounces. This heavy weight contender runs on two rechargeable AA batteries which are included along with battery charger.  The rear of the camcorder houses the spacious 2.5 inch display and can be easily seen outdoors in almost any sunny condition. The lens is mounted on the front of course, as well as the button for popping out the USB connector, a mono microphone and a built-in speaker. You will find the battery compartment mounted on the left side as well as the SD slot cover and a slider switch, for putting the lens in macro mode. On the right of the unit is the USB connector and the ports for AV and HD output ports. The bottom side has a threaded screw for using the camera on a tripod.

The digital camera is an excellent option for those who like to record video on the go, and will make a special gift to unwrap on Christmas day.
