Piaggio Unveils a 141-MPG Plug-In MP3 Hybrid Scooter

piaggio plug in hybrid scooter Piaggio Unveils a 141 MPG Plug In MP3 Hybrid ScooterPiaggio the Italian scooter manufacture has unveiled its new MP3 Hybrid plug-in scooter that promises to get 141 miles per gallon. The scooter manufacture hopes to release the bike sometime in the first quarter of 2010.  The hybrid scooter can operate in either an electric mode, or one of three other gas and electric modes or combination, with a 125cc gasoline engine it can start from a standstill to sixty MPH in about five seconds.

The MP3 Hybrid can cruise for about 40 miles on a single charge, and has a gas-powered generator for extra power. Like most other PHEVs, the scooter utilizes regenerative breaking to recharge the batteries. It takes about three hours to fully charge the three wheeled scooter from a standard receptacle outlet in your home.

No word on a price as of this post, but Piaggo says it can be on the market as soon as next year.
