Sony’s PSP 3000, Review
The PSP 3000 isn’t a major overhaul in design from its predecessors, although some minor cosmetic changes have been made. The $199.00 USD PSP 3000 weighs in at a little over 7 ounces at 2.81 inches high x 6.3 inches wide x 0.63 inches deep.
The classic black finish and a high quality brushed metal matte finish are the two color options in Sony’s latest version. The cool thing about the metal matte finish is fingerprints and smudges are much less noticeable. However we can’t say the same for the screen. Nevertheless, the new screen has a notable difference in anti-glare when playing games and watching movies. We really liked the screen’s anti-glare technology when used outside in daylight. No doubt this is a big improvement from the previous models.
The screen has a wider color gamut and features five times the contrast ratio and quicker pixel-response times than the previous models. The Sony PSP 3000 also has a built in microphone for Skype calls, works with UMDs, same as the PSP 2000, and sports 4 GB Memory Stick Duo. You can use your 3.5 mm headphones with it, or connect it to your TV using the AV out. The 3000 also has Wi-Fi to connect to the internet, and a web browser for surfing. We did manage to test some phone calls within the US and were surprised how clear the audio was on both ends. While holding the PSP 3000 in my hands, it felt solid and no doubt looks more durable than earlier versions. We got to play the 3000 continuously for about 4 hours which isn’t that long at all for a portable gaming device. So bring the charger along with you.

Conclusion
We don’t recommend any PSP 2001 users to upgrade to the PSP 3000 as there simply aren’t that many new features to justify an upgrade. If you are a new customer, we suggest considering the PSP 2001 as the PSP 3000 doesn’t support many hacks as of yet. Other than that, it’s really a nice portable gaming machine with excellent features. No doubt those looking for a portable game machine for what ever reason will benefit from the PSP 3000. We will leave you with this final note, we suggest using a screen protector for the display while not in use to avoid imprints and scratches. Enjoy!
