The Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote
My wife (Sharon) and I wanted to do away with our coffee table full of remotes for quite some time, and we have purchased a few “all in one” remotes over in the past but never really found one that meet our needs. With all the electronic devices in our digital home, controlling them had becomes a major issue. Keeping up with a half dozen different remotes for various entertainment components in the house got to be a serious task.
After reviewing numerous different remote control options I got the chance to test the Logitech Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote Control and I was excited, but skeptical. After all I have had my hands on dozens of remotes that all were dissappointing in the end. But reviewers overwhelmingly agreed that the Logitech Harmony One is the best universal remote overall on the market and I now had my hands on one, I was excited. The Harmony One features an easy-to-use design that includes both a color touchscreen and on-board buttons. Using both the touchscreen menus and function buttons, I found it to be very flexible and easy to use. Then putting it through a rigurios test of six children, I can honestly say the Logitech Harmony One Remote Control is one cool gadget, and a tough one at that!
I was impressed after reading the directions that we could put up to 15 separate electronic devices on our remote control. We now have retired all remotes for the TV’s, VCR, DVD, cable box, Wii, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, Sharon’s Karoke system and few stereo surround components. Adding the older units was easy as the device database for the Logitech Harmony One Remote is huge and contains over 5000 brands and 225,000 models and includes electronic items from the past 20 years. So finding a remote that handles all our household electronics, which included two older TV’s and an older game console for the kids was finally here.

A big plus for us was they had a live customer support team to assist if needed and the Logitech website offers online assistance with their toll free technical support lines which are available Monday through Friday 9:00am ET-10:00pm ET, Saturday through Sunday 10:00am ET-5:30pm ET. So you don’t have to be an expert with the online setup software. The setup wizard is intuitive and easy to follow along. However, we were fine with the Installation guide and software and assistance was not needed.
After setting everything up the way you want, you then attached the USB cable to the remote control and to your computer to sync them up so the information can be downloaded to your remote. Then you can test each function. If a componet doesn’t work correctly, you go back to your computer and access your account and adjust the settings and download your changes to the remote via the USB connection. It’s that easy
