Turn Your Car into a Driving Hotspot
With the dawn of the digital age we always needed to be connected to the internet. And for those individuals or families who spend a great deal of their time on the road, there is sometimes needed what we call mobile broadband.
But generally this is very expensive and not cost effective as the average price is $60 a month for a broadband connect card and that only limits the person to 5GB a month. Needless to say with a minimum of four people doing their necessary internet business this can easily be maxed out in just a few days.
So what are some better options? The best option would be turning your car into a driving hotspot. As the term suggests that is exactly what it is. Provide unlimited internet access for all the occupants of your vehicle and your vehicle only. That means Dave traveling in the next lane won’t be able to cipher any of your connection unless you allow him to.
We’ll start by giving you the more expensive option. This includes going with AutonetMobile which has different options. The base price for the unit is $400 which is quite a huge sum. Monthly prices begin at $29 for 1GB and $59 for 5GB.
This doesn’t work out as a lot but for basic needs this can more then supply any traveler or family. This does mean that YouTube, Hulu and other video websites will have to be left alone.
The next and less expensive option is to but a mobile broadband wireless router for about $150 and then stick a wireless broadband modem into the device.
This works out a lot less expensive and means that you can broadcast a broadband connection from any type of wireless card around the vehicle.
The only drawback is that you will generally have to sign a contract unless you buy the wireless broadband modem at full price.
Now the question arises, how do I get unlimited broadband access? Most wireless providers used to offer this but now almost every single one has capped it to 5GB per month. But Sprint has a new business option that gives you unlimited data for a set fee. To get the deal you will either have to visit a local Sprint store or call in.
Another option to go with is Cricket Wireless. They have an unlimited broadband connect plan at a reasonable rate. Rates are just $40 a month and are unlimited. The only catch is that Cricket Wireless does not have a vast coverage area and so that means that you might be left in the cold if you stray off the main roads.
Another option is to turn the laptop with a broadband connection into an access point. Most laptops can do this very easily via the Wireless connectivity options in the taskbar. Just make sure to secure the connection so those who happen to pick up the connection will not eat up your data as it can be very expensive if you run over.
