Wii HD coming 2011?
There has been much hullabaloo about Nintendo releasing an HD version of its ever so popular Wii. The rumors have started ever since the Wii was released, but just this week it has gotten major play as some tech analysts are hearing from “inside sources” that it could be a reality in 2011.
If this is the case it, it would fall right in line with the midlife update that many game consoles are now getting. But the major question is if it’s really needed? Nintendo has had no trouble getting its console off the shelves and into the hands of crazed fans. Unfortunately most statistics show that the Wii is the least played out of all three next generation consoles and many avid gamers shy away from it due to the lack of serious titles not to mention HD support no comprendo. Putting HD on the console might help to change this, but then again HD is not all, Nintendo will need to focus on a better lineup of games if they want to steal attention from Xbox and PS3 fans.
Nintendo is not one company that is lacking money at the moment and with more emphasis being placed on motion control and HD content, Nintendo is already ruling the scene in one area.
More then naturally Nintendo is at least mulling the idea of an HD Wii, but if it will attract the craze the current system has gotten is of course yet to be seen. In the mean time, they have reduced the price on their current systems to a cool $200 so we’ll just have to see how this will help them with their holiday sales lineup.
